Continental marriage tradition is a wonderful way to celebrate the unique civilizations of Europe and their beliefs surrounding love and marriage. Many of these traditions have a specific meaning and metaphor attached to them, whether it is for luck, happiness or to keep the terrible spirits at bay. Some of these conventions perhaps appear strange or dumb to us immediately but they are deeply rooted in society and have been passed down over the years for centuries.

For illustration, in France after the official rites and the party, it is old-fashioned to collect outside the brides’ windowpane to smash pots and pans with them – this is known as “la charivari”. This is to wish them fine fortune and open them from any monetary concerns they may possess. It is also done to convince them of the joy and excitement that their ceremony morning brought them, as well as to send them more nice fortune in their prospect up.

Another European wedding tradition is the” Krevati”. This involves friends and family members placing wealth on the couple’s mattress for fertility, heath and wealth. They typically leave a little more than that and if they are very prosperous, they might also product them with a residence or a mansion!

Candied cashews are likewise a European bride tradition. They are given to all friends who attend a bride and represent fortune, wellbeing, trust and accomplishment. They are usually pinned to the honeymooners garments by their customers, much like the marriage bands.
